School Bus Safety
The law mandates that all vehicles must stop when the school bus is loading and unloading students. You must stop for a school bus that is stopped with its red lights flashing whether it is on your side of the road, the opposite side of the road or at an intersection you are approaching. After the school bus red lights have stopped flashing, watch for children along the side of the road and do not proceed until they have completely left the roadway and it is safe to proceed.
It is a State regulation that students board the school bus at their assigned bus stop. Our school and bus drivers are collaborating with local police departments, tribal communities and Sandoval County to ensure student safety. The District Building Administrator (Principal) will receive Incident Referrals on students who board the bus at a bus stop not assigned to the student per the address provided at school registration. Per the State of NM's PED Transportation Unit, a student can lose their school bus riding privilege due to violations of school bus safety.
We appreciate your support and compliance with the law and regulation regarding school bus safety as we do not want to be amongst the horrific school bus accidents that occurred last week within the Nation. Please keep in mind “Safety is like ABC, Always Be Careful.”
